A Blanking plate will replace the external handle with a blanking plate. This is used when using a door for a Juliet balcony or additional security is required.

NON-TOUGHENED FLOAT GLASS
Float glass is standard, non-toughened glass that provides excellent clarity and is suitable for locations where safety glass is not required.
Unlike toughened glass, float glass has not undergone the additional heat-treatment process used to increase strength and change how the glass behaves if broken.
TOUGHENED GLASS
Toughened glass undergoes a specialist heat-treatment process to increase its strength and improve safety. If broken, it is designed to shatter into small, relatively blunt pieces rather than large, sharp shards.
Safety glass is required in certain critical locations, including areas in and around doors and glazing close to floor level. We also recommend toughened glass for larger glazed areas where additional strength and safety may be beneficial.
TRIPLE GLAZING
Triple glazing uses three panes of glass rather than two, providing improved thermal insulation and helping to reduce heat loss through the glazing. It can also provide improved acoustic performance depending on the glass specification and overall unit construction.
Our triple-glazed units are supplied with toughened glass as standard.
ACOUSTIC GLASS
Acoustic glass is designed to help reduce the transmission of external noise through the glazing. It uses specialist laminated acoustic glass within the insulated glass unit to provide improved sound reduction compared with standard glazing.
The level of noise reduction achieved will depend on the complete glass specification and the window or door system selected.
LAMINATED GLASS
Laminated glass consists of two sheets of glass bonded together with a specialist interlayer. If the glass is broken, the interlayer helps hold the glass together, providing additional safety and security.
Laminated glass may be required as part of a PAS 24 security specification or to meet specific Building Regulations requirements, depending on the product, location and application.
Our glazing is supplied to a high-performance specification as standard. The overall thermal performance of a window or door depends on several factors, including the glass configuration, spacer, frame system and product size.
Please refer to the U-value chart below for the performance of the available glazing specifications.
PRO TIP: Opening outwards doors are most popular when opening onto a patio. Opening inwards doors are most popular for a juliet balcony.
Outwards: Stood outside your home, both doors open outwards into the garden. Hinges are on the outside.
Inwards: Stood outside your home, both doors open inwards into the building. Hinges are on the inside.
A trickle vent in your door or window will give extra ventilation to the property
Air circulation is important to reduce moisture in the air and helps reduce condensation and mould
N.B.2 If you’re installing into a new build it’s now compulsory by law to have trickle vents fitted to all doors and windows
Double Ramp
Usually used when placed directly onto a floor with the same level internally as externally.
Note this option is NOT available with a sill.
Please note: Commercial pivot doors do not have a weather rating. In exposed areas it is possible that they can be blown open, this can lead to draughts / water ingress. Consideration for additional weathering such as a canopy or porch should be made when carrying out a site survey.
The first rule of thumb is to make sure you take accurate measurements in millimetres not inches. This gives you a finer level of accuracy and means there’s no room for error if we have to convert the measurement to metric.
So firstly step outside. You need to take height and width measurements for the brickwork opening. Bear in mind that the height measurements must be from underneath any existing removable windowsill. If your property is rendered, simply take off a little of the render and measure to the brickwork edge.
Remember the opening may not be exactly square so take a minimum of three measurements – top, middle and bottom, for the height and the same again for the width. This means your window manufacturer can get an accurate view of the exact size of the space the finished product will be fitted into. The final width and height measurement the manufacturer will use is the smallest one.
This sounds like odd advice but you need to take off 10mm from the final height and width measurements. This is to allow for a small fitting allowance around the new frame and means the fitter can make sure the new window frame sits squarely when it’s in place. Any gaps are then fitted with spacers and filled to keep the frame in just the right position.
This is a common error and certainly one to avoid. Ignore the old window frame – this is going because it is no longer suitable. Consider the fact that it may well have warped so the last thing you want to do is take measurements from it!
Make sure you check (and double-check) your measurements so you are 100% sure you have them correctly. This is important because we will not accept responsibility for incorrect measurements and you will still have to pay for a window that doesn’t fit. If you are unsure, consult a professional installer or builder and give yourself total peace of mind.
Taking all the above information in to account, when inputting your measurements we require you to provide us your overall brick-to-brick measurement minus the 10mm fitting tolerance. We will automatically include the cill in to the measurements you provide us – pending you require one that is!
If you struggle, or you would like us to contact you for piece of mind, once your order is placed just leave a note at the checkout asking for a call back!
